Match report: Knights Youth enjoy success on gameday 2

Knights Youth - gameday 2.jpeg

Northants Knights Youth enjoyed another successful gameday in the BAFA U16s Midlands B Division, to sit at 5-1-0 for the season and top of the division.

The second gameday saw the Knights travel to Bedford where they would face Rugby Rhinos and hosts Bedford Blackhawks, with Leicester Falcons having to withdraw from participating.

Game one was against the Rhinos and, in a game executed well, the Knights came away 20-0 winners, with Ben Godfrey taking the game MVP.

The Knights couldn't continue their 100% record in game two against the hosts, despite a battling display. A couple of mistakes, and some players missing through injury, meant the team suffered a 20-6 defeat. Matt Coggins was named as the game's MVP.

Leicester's withdrawal meant Matt Godfrey's side were awarded a walkover victory, to move to 5-1-0 for the season.

The next gameday is on 28 August when we travel to Rugby.

“To be 5-1 and to top the division is a massive achievement”

Reflecting on the day, here's what Head Coach Matt Godfrey had to say.

“Saturday's tournament was a tough day at the office for both the players and coaches.

"We carried some niggling injuries over from the previous week leaving us with players playing out of positions.

"However I was immensely pleased that we could get some success in the air this week with Ben Godfrey looking far more comfortable in the pocket. Shawn Colgan taking up the role of centre gave Ben great protection.

"We used the second game to try some new things which did cost us. With a stronger roster going into the next tournament and a few weeks for injuries to heal I am confident that we will be back to last week's form.

"We have to remember that not one of these guys have played before and to be 5-1 and to top the division is a massive achievement."
