Rookie Day - a players’ perspective
Our upcoming Rookie Day is fast approaching on 18 April 2021, and we're looking forward to welcoming the newest Knights to the family.
Rather than us tell you how great Rookie Days are, we've caught up with two players, Ash and Mike, who have previously attended a Rookie Day and are now a key part of the team.

“A fantastic experience”
Here's what Ash, who now plays in the Defence as a Defensive Back, said:
“Rookie Day was a fantastic experience for me and totally solidified my decision to start playing American Football and fall in love with a new sport.
"Despite being a fan, my playing knowledge and experience was very limited but the lads and coaches were so welcoming and supportive.
"I immediately trusted that they would find the right position for me to match my skill set. It has been a terrific journey and learning curve since and the lads who started off as strangers have now become my brothers!“
“Every person was so encouraging”
And here's what Mike, who plays on the Offensive line, had to say:
“I was encouraged down to a Rookie Day as it was an awesome way of making friends and keeping fit, and it was an amazing experience.
"I shook hands with the coaches and then joined in on drills to assess what position would work best for me. No matter how good or bad I did at a drill, every person was so encouraging and they have become my brothers - this is the main reason I have stayed; the sense of belonging and brotherhood.
"Since day one, I have changed from a guy who had never watched a single play of American Football to Left Tackle protecting the quarterback at all times. I have come so far and I can't wait to keep growing with the team.”
Coming along to one of the Knights Rookie Days is more than just joining a sports team. You will be around 35 or more people who want nothing more than for you to succeed, and they will help you along the journey as brothers.

Location: Wellingborough Old Grammarians Rugby Club, NN8 6BS
More information: No experience is needed for our Rookie Days, and all abilities are body types are welcome. The session is free to attend and all you need to bring is a pair of boots and a bottle of water.
