Head Coach Matt Godfrey in awe of Knights Youth

Northants Knights U16 Head Coach Matt Godfrey spoke of his pride after the Youth team finished the 2022 season with a record of 9-2-1.

The U16s displayed lots of heart and promise during the season, recording some impressive results, and only losing to eventual champions, the Nuneaton Jaguars.

And HC Godfrey says the team, who have become close-knit throughout the campaign, exceeded his expectations.

"This season has been a great season - I am in awe of how hard these guys have worked to get where they are today.

"They've exceeded my expectations and have had some come-from-behind victories, which shows their absolute resolve.

"To have finished with a record of won 10, lost two and drawn one is a massive achievement for such a young team. We were never the biggest but we dominated on offense and were very stingy on defense.

"What is great to see is the family that these guys have become. That is the beauty of this sport that you work so closely together that you all become close.

"I would like to say a massive thank you to the players that leave us to move up to the under-19s - they have been fantastic leaders and role models, and have set the tone on game days and at training.

"I would also like to extend a thank you to the parents as, without you, we would not have players at games or training.

"I am now looking ahead to next season where under-16s will play seven-a-side, so the game and field will look very different.

"To end I couldn't be a prouder coach and I truly believe we are the best up-and-coming team in the country and I can't wait to see what we do next season."
